RESCOM: Ecological engineering expertise in Tivatska Solila (Montenegro)
An expert mission bringing together specialists from the Conservatoire du littoral, Tour du Valat, and AGIR Ecologique was organized from 12 to 16 May under the RESCOM project, in partnership with the Public Enterprise for Coastal Zone Management of Montenegro, the managing authority of the Tivatska Solila Special Nature Reserve (Ramsar Site and former saltworks).

The aim of this mission was to carry out a diagnosis of the protected area and to discuss with local stakeholders and experts involved in this territory (Municipality of Tivat, NGO CZIP…), in order to provide recommendations in terms of ecological engineering actions to be implemented in the future, based on Nature-based Solutions (NBS).

Various options were discussed and will be presented to the reserve’s Advisory Committee in early July. A prioritization exercise will then be carried out to define the concrete Nature-based Solutions (NbS) actions to be implemented on the site as early as 2025.
The field mission last May confirmed the key role played by the Reserve in natural risk management, in the socio-economic development of the area (welcoming local, national, and international visitors), and in the conservation of Montenegro’s biodiversity and heritage.
