RESCOM’s participation in COP23 of the Barcelona Convention

The Mediterranean Biodiversity Consortium’s RESCOM project was presented at a side event at COP23 of the Barcelona Convention for the protection of the Mediterranean, along with other cooperation projects aimed at developing Nature-based Solutions in the Mediterranean. The event, which took place in early December 2023 in Slovenia, was jointly organized by IUCN-Med, ETC-UMA, UNEP, Tour du Valat and MedWet on behalf of the Mediterranean Biodiversity Consortium.

The session, entitled “From coastal ecosystems to forest ecosystems: nature-based solutions for combating climate change and ensuring the resilience of natural environments and populations in the Mediterranean”, presented a number of ongoing initiatives deployed across the Mediterranean (RESTCOAST, RESCOM, the Mediterranean Forest Initiative). These initiatives aim in particular to strengthen the knowledge base on the region’s main ecosystems, including forests, and to guide ecological conservation and restoration efforts in order to reduce socio-ecological risks and ensure a sustainable future for Mediterranean populations and their unique biodiversity, in the context of the combined global crises of climate change and biodiversity loss.
