Monitoring mission in the Khenifiss National Park: tangible progress for sustainable tourism and biodiversity conservation.
In April 2026, the Conservatoire du littoral, a member of the Mediterranean Biodiversity Consortium, carried out a monitoring mission of activities supported by the RESCOM project in the Khenifiss National Park (PNK) in Morocco, in partnership with the National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF), the site’s managing authority, and local stakeholders.
This visit provided an opportunity to review progress with all local partners involved in the various actions undertaken to support the sustainable development of the territory and strengthen the conservation of the park’s biodiversity.
Key achievements include:
- the completion of a landscape design and exhibition planning study for the park’s visitor center;
- the carrying out of an ecotourism development study for the Khenifiss National Park (PNK);
- the continuation of communication and event support activities to promote the park and local ecotourism initiatives;
- the preparation of works aimed at reinforcing the flamingo nesting islet and creating a second one.
The mission also helped strengthen institutional partnerships, particularly with the Province of Tarfaya, and made it possible to organize a public information meeting in Akhfennir with local economic stakeholders and associations in order to involve them in promoting sustainable tourism in the Khenifiss National Park (PNK).

Furthermore, the ANEF is currently continuing the operational implementation of the recommendations resulting from the completed studies, notably through the redevelopment of the entrance area to the Naïla lagoon, the restoration of the visitor center, and the installation of new signage.

This mission confirms the collective momentum established around the Khenifiss National Park to reconcile ecosystem conservation, the promotion of natural and cultural heritage, and the development of sustainable tourism.
