[MISSION] Continued cooperation activities in Tivatska Solila Nature Reserve (Montenegro)

On 28 and 29 October, the Conservatoire du littoral, a member of the Mediterranean Biodiversity Consortium (MBC), visited the Tivatska Solila Special Nature Reserve, the Montenegrin pilot site for the #RESCOM project “Strengthening the resilience of ecosystems in the Mediterranean”, led by the MBC.

Carried out in cooperation with the Public Enterprise for the Management of the Montenegrin Coastal Zone (PECZMM), the site’s manager, the mission focused on three main areas of work:

  • 💧 Hydrological study
Review the progress of the Reserve’s hydrological study, for which measuring equipment has been installed in recent weeks. The results will provide a better understanding of how the wetland functions and help identify measures to improve its water retention capacity and conserve biodiversity.
  • 📊 Capacity building and data management
Prepare a training programme for local teams, scheduled for 2027, to support the PECZMM in developing a future geographic information system (GIS), facilitating the storage and sharing of data relevant to site management.
  • 🌿 Preparing future on-the-ground activities
Continue discussions on concrete actions that could be implemented at the site with the support of the RESCOM project, including the creation of a management trail and water retention works. These activities are fully aligned with the nature-based solutions approach.

Thank you to the PECZMM and the associated experts, Golub Culafic and Zeljko Samardzic, for their fruitful collaboration!
